Why the Funny Name?

Ho'omana is a Hawaiian word that means "to make good spirit". It is
pronounced "ho-oh-mahn-ah". Yes, the name is a bit unusual but so are we so
it is only fitting! This ministry was conceived and birthed on Hawaii, HI
(otherwise known as the "Big Island" of Hawaii). Our original ministry was a
short distance from
Waipio Valley, one of the most spiritually significant sites in
the Hawaiian Islands.  Although we are now based in Concord, California, we
felt it correct to continue to honor our roots and the gentle spirit of the islands
in our name.

Ha'puu fern  is indigenous  to the Big Island of Hawaii.
This plant was used by the traditional Hawaiian healers.
These young fiddleheads spring up out of the decay of the dying ferns.
A symbol of healing and new life.

What makes us unique?

Ho'omana Ministry is not quite like any other church or ministry. Our Hawaiian
heritage has instilled in us a spirit of Aloha. We place an emphasis on service to
others, hospitality and love. Our services are open to all who are seeking.
However, our welcoming atmosphere is not our only unique attribute. We are
not a traditional Christian church.

We are an Essene Congregation of Believers in the Way.

As such, we worship the same God of the Christian heritage but we view God in
a different way. We believe in a masculine and feminine representation of God.
We worship God, the Father, Yahweh who is our creator and we worship God,
the Mother, also known as the Holy Spirit who is our counselor and comforter.
We believe the Father and Mother sent their  only begotten son, Yeshua to
show us the Way. As son of man, he is our guide providing us with the correct
path through his example and saving us from floundering in the darkness.

We recognise that there are many others who call themselves Essenes who do
not follow this same interpretation. Since the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls
in 1946, the word "Essene" has made its way around the world. Many different
groups have adopted the title for many different belief systems. This is
unfortunate because the confusion dilutes the importance of  the Essene
tradition.

During the time of Yeshua (know by the traditional Christian church as Jesus
Christ), three major Jewish religious sects existed in Judea. These  sects were
the Pharisees, the Sadducees and the Essenes. The Essenes were unique among
these sects in their style of worship. They rejected the temple worship in
Jerusalem.  Instead they followed the old ways -the pure and true worship of
Father and Mother that dates back at least to the time of Enoch and probably
before. As Judea became a theocracy, and the priests gained power, this pure
form of worship was corrupted. In became an elaborate, cumbersome form of
Judaism that increased the power of the elite and priestly classes –the
Pharisees and Sadducees. These classes created the Jewish religion of today.

Thankfully, God always preserves a remnant of true believers. The Essenes
separated themselves from the established religion and created their own
communities. These groups of true followers of the Way  were scattered around
Judea. There were communities in Mount Carmel, Nazareth, in the desert in
Qumran and even a group in Jerusalem. The Essenes practiced the seventh
day sabbath, non-violence to all living creatures and the sharing of all material
possessions. They were uninvolved in the politics of the Sadducees and
Pharisees and shunned publicity.

The Essenes, the remnant of true believers,  were the founders of what would
later be called Christianity.  Almost all of the key figures of early Christianity -
Mary, Joseph, John the Baptist, and of course, Yeshua, the Anointed One -
were from Essene communities. There were a few converted Pharisees and
Gentiles but most were Essenes. This was the early church mentioned in Acts.
They were followers of the Way. For more information regarding
the history of
the Essenes, click here.

Unfortunately, over time this  early fervent group of believers became
established organized churches. The leaders of the churches became powerful.
These leaders began influencing and  shaping the church to maintain and
increase their authority. The pure and true path to Mother and Father God
was corrupted again.

Fortunately, God's truth always survives. Because of the discovery of dead sea
scroll material, this ancient sect and their teachings are back alive. The dead
sea scrolls were hidden by this ancient people long ago in the caves of Qumran.
We, at Ho'omana are following in the path of those earlier Ones who showed us
the Way. The greatest and most recent guide is of course, our Nazarene Essene
Lord, Yeshua. He is our ultimate model of how to live as a son of man (this
creation) and a child of Kingdom of God. When Yeshua began his public
ministry, He stood in the synagogue, opened the holy scriptures and read from
Isaiah 61. What he read was a call to ministry. We use that same passage as our
guide and mission statement.
Welcome to Ho'omana Health Ministries!
The following adaptation of that scripture are the words that were read by the
pastor of this ministry, Rev. Vivian Smith, at her ordination:

The Spirit of God has sent us to bring good news to the oppressed,
To bind up the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners,
To comfort all who mourn,
To give them a garland instead of ashes,
The oil of gladness instead of mourning,
The mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit.
We shall build up the ancient ruins, we shall raise up the former devastations,
the devastations of many generations.
We shall be named ministers of our God
.
We are an Online Internet Church

Ho'omana Ministry believes that the age in which we are living is a historic time.
This is an unprecedented age of change. We believe we are on the cusp of the
Kingdom of God on earth.  Mother and Father God have revitalized the Essene
way to prepare the leaders for this new age. It is exciting time and there is much
to do.  We believe that Father and Mother God are preparing hearts and
opening eyes. We decided to put our message out on the internet knowing that
our Father and Mother will guide those of like mind to this site.

We are Healing Ministry

To truly follow Isaiah 61 as the guide for our ministry, we must do more that
have church services. We must  heal broken and hurting people. We must
minister to the physical, emotional and mental needs of those who come to us for
help. Therefore we started our health services as a vital part of our mission. Our
church is not just a social organization. We take the work of God seriously.  We
provide medical assistance, counseling services, and educational services. We
seek to follow Yeshua's admonition to be a light in the darkness- light to body,
soul, mind and spirit
